For those who are thinking: What the hell is going on in Istanbul, Turkey? What is Gezi Park? Why is this illustration tumblr of Olga’s full of political stuff? I will give you a small recap:

Gezi Park is the ”Central Park” of Istanbul. Government wants to make it into a shopping mall…

Istanbul is fed up of shopping malls, buildings and wants more green areas!

Peaceful protestors like me protest and march to Gezi Park.

On May 31st the police try to stop us using brute force, tear gas, pressured water, plastic bullets etc. and continue for days. Still continuing as I write…

Our prime minister is threatening us, a.k.a Hitler style. He is a neo-islamic conservative man who is banning things like alcohol after 10p.m, morning after pills and changing our education, law and religious systems.

We are fed up with our government and want CHANGE. WE ARE PEACEFUL PROTESTORS. But the government and police are trying to make it seem like we are a menace.

The international media is covering the protests very well and our voices are being heard. But the Turkish media isn’t covering anything except for HALK TV which is the only channel we can rely on right now.

This is exactly what is happening right now in Istanbul, Turkey. The government and media are treating it’s people like we are idiots who don’t understand anything. The police are literally trying to kill the peaceful protestors by attacking with tear gas, pressured water and even plastic bullets! Our PM is acting like Hitler. I am afraid for my country.

My protest outfit…because of all the tear gas. I also need a helmet from now on because they are aiming the tear gas at our heads. One passed right by me I was very lucky indeed. Oh and yes that is my bf, helping me stay strong <3

Hello Michael, thank you for asking! I am well and have been protesting actively for 3 days now and been tear/pepper gased about ten times now but we still need to fight and hope change/democracy will come…we are in danger. I will keep sharing updates of what is going on. Please let the world know as well. We need your support.

It is past midnight in Istanbul and still there are thousands on the streets protesting. I was there too and I am proud of the youth in Turkey, all of us are fighting for our freedom rights and the WHOLE WORLD should know what is going on! The fascist government is using brute force and all the protestors including myself have been tear gased more than once. Hundreds are injured and 2 have died.

WE ARE NOT GOING TO STOP UNTILL OUR VOICES HAVE BEEN HEARD.
